18U Baseball

18U is for players born in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

We anticipate having 1 team in the division. The season will start at the beginning of April and run to the end of June, with play-offs starting mid-June. Teams vie for the City Championship.

You can expect the team to be on the field 3 days per week - two practices and one game. Practices will be at Henderson Park. The first few sessions will be practices only and thereafter the schedule will consist of games with other teams within the Greater Victoria area. There are approximately 20 games. This division has 90' base paths just like the MLB.

Coaches will select game slots at a pre-season scheduling meeting that will be shared with families once the team is confirmed. Depending on the number of registrations, there may be an assessment.

NOTE:  If you are new to 18U, you must purchase your jersey from our store for $50.  This has been separated from the fees in order to allow returning 18U players as well as players moving up from 15UAA to use their jersey from 2019 (as long as it fits).  A uniform fitting will take place during the 15U and 13U AA tryouts, date and time to be announced.  All players will receive a new hat and long sleeve practice jersey as part of the base fee.  If you do not have the premium red button-up jersey you need to buy one from our store.  If you have any questions, please contact 18U Coordinator Maureen Cain at carnarvon18Ucoordinator@gmail.com

2020 Important dates:

  • April 6 - Team practices start at Henderson Park (Time TBA)
  • April 19 - Opening Ceremonies and team photos 10:00 - 10:30 am
  • June 20 - Closing Ceremonies 10:30am

Coaching:

This league is run entirely by volunteers, coaches included!  It is our goal to have a minimum of 2 coaches per team with 2 parent helpers (to help out at practices and games) and 1 business manager for the team (to send email reminders to the team families on behalf of the coaches) for each team at the this level. 

Each team will ultimately determine how they would like to structure their coaching staff, but the following is a rough guideline of what is entailed with each role:

Head Coach/Manager (1):

Assistant Coach (1):

  • Must submit a criminal record check prior to season start (done annually).  Follow these instructions: http://www.carnarvonballclub.com/pages/crc
  • Must complete an online NCCP Level 1 coaching certification (cost to be reimbursed by the association): http://nccp.baseball.ca/register.php
  • Attend every practice and game
  • Assist with practices, drills
  • Run warm-ups
  • Base coaching and/or running the pitching machine

Team Business Manager:

  • Organize team volunteers for field prep and score-keeping
  • Liaise with Head Coach/Manager for team communication
  • Collect player availability for practices and games

 Parent Helper (2):

  • This is not an official coaching role, does not require a criminal record check and you will not get the glory of wearing a coaches shirt...but you will be greatly appreciated by parents, kids and coaches.
  • Involves bringing your glove and helping out at all practices and games.

Parent involvement:

All families are required to assist with team duties. These duties consist of score-keeping and field prep at all regular season home games. Don't worry! We will provide training opportunities for these duties, so no advanced experience is required.
