U12 Softball

The season runs from early April and until the end of June. The South Vancouver Island (SVI) Minor Fastpitch Association U12 Division has three Tiers: C (Recreational), B (Competitive) and A (Highly Competitive). In 2020, Carnarvon Softball plans to offer U12C and U12B. We are accepting coaching applications for Head and Assistant Coaches for U12C, these positions for U12B have been filled.

Schedule

In U12B, there are 1-2 regular season games per week, plus the team will enter 2-4 weekend tournaments during the season. Provincial playoffs are usually completed by mid-July.  There will be 1-2 practices per week .

In U12C, there are usually 1-2 games per week. Practice schedules vary from year to year and depend on field and coach preference, but in the past there have been 1-2 practices per week depending on the number of games that are scheduled

Age Requirements
In Spring 2020, U12 is for players born in 2008 and 2009.  It is possible for younger players to join, if space is available. Contact carnarvonsoftballregistrar@gmail.com if you would like to request your younger child play at this level.

Assessments
Assessments maybe required depending on registration numbers.

Team Selection
We will make every effort to accommodate any friend or coaching request, no guarantees can be made.  Priority will be given to past Carnarvon players first, then on a first come first served basis.

Uniforms

Players will receive a team uniform shirt and a hat that they get to keep at the end of the season (there is no uniform deposit).  Please ensure that they wear it to each game. Players are required to wear black ball pants.

Equipment

Required equipment:

  • batting helmet with a strap and cage
  • glove
  • cleats (recommended, but not mandatory, baseball or soccer cleats are fine)
  • infield face guards for pitchers (recommended for all players)
  • black ball pants

Please ensure that you mark the player's name on everything.  A white label or masking tape works well on the outside of the batting helmet and handwritten on labels in shirts, glove and hats.
